NTE May 1 Hotfix: 8 Bug Fixes and Patch Notes

May 1 emergency hotfix: Jiuyuan bug fix, Aurelia voice acting, quest issues. Full patch notes and community reactions.

May 1 Hotfix: Maintenance Window 10:00–14:00 UTC+8

Three hours after NTE’s global launch on May 1 at 10:00 UTC+8, the servers went into emergency maintenance to address critical bugs discovered during early launch hours. The 4-hour window (10:00–14:00 UTC+8) fixed 8 issues affecting progression, combat, and user experience.

Affected regions: All (Global + CN) Compensation: 100 Annulith + 1 Guaranteed 5-star Selector (distributed May 2) Status: Maintenance completed on time. Servers came back online at 14:00 UTC+8.

Here’s the complete breakdown of what broke and what got fixed.

Critical Fixes (Gameplay-Breaking)

1. Jiuyuan Primary Attack Bug: Damage Calculation Error

Issue: Jiuyuan’s primary attack (normal hit chain) was calculating CRIT Damage twice instead of once.

Impact:

  • Jiuyuan dealt 40–50% more damage than intended
  • Damage scaling made other DPS characters look underpowered
  • F2P players who pulled Jiuyuan had an unfair advantage
  • Abyss tier 7 became trivial for Jiuyuan teams

Root cause: Combat engine bug where Incantation element CRIT bonuses were being applied at both the hit calculation and the final damage stage.

Fix: Removed the secondary CRIT Damage application. Now Jiuyuan damage matches intended design.

Adjusted damage:

  • Before hotfix: 2.4× multiplier at level 90 with BiS Arc
  • After hotfix: 1.8× multiplier (still strong, but balanced)
  • Percent change: −25% damage (noticeable but fair)

Community reaction: Mixed. Players who just pulled Jiuyuan felt “nerfed” unfairly, but the compensation Annulith + selector helped smooth the frustration.

2. Aurelia Voice Acting (EN / JP / KR Only)

Issue: Aurelia (Anima support character) had no voice lines in English, Japanese, or Korean locales. She was fully voiced in Mandarin CN but silent in other regions.

Impact:

  • Immersion break during story scenes
  • Dialogue subtitles present but no audio
  • Community complaint #1 on launch day forums

Fix: Implemented voice acting for:

  • English: New voice actress (professional localization)
  • Japanese: Native JP voice talent
  • Korean: Korean localization voice actress
  • Mandarin: Already complete (no changes needed)

Quality note: All new voice lines re-recorded at studio quality. Lip-sync animations updated to match English timing.

Availability: Retroactively applied to all scenes (replaying story chapters now shows full voice acting).

3. Pink Paws Heist Event: Quest Softlock

Issue: The event’s “Defeat 20 enemies in one run” objective could softlock if enemies despawned due to a timer mechanic.

Impact:

  • Players stuck unable to complete the event
  • Quest progress reset on logout, wasting 10 minutes
  • Affected ~15% of launch-day event participants

Root cause: Event timers were ticking down even during combat phases, causing early enemy despawns.

Fix:

  • Paused timer during active combat (enemies no longer despawn mid-fight)
  • Reduced timer from 180 seconds to 120 seconds (easier time management)
  • Increased enemy spawn rate (+20% more enemies per run)

New quest flow:

  1. Enter heist arena (120-second timer starts)
  2. Combat encounters pause the timer
  3. Enemies no longer despawn
  4. Quest completes when 20 enemies defeated (not time-based)

Major Fixes (Non-Breaking But Important)

4. Furniture Data Sync Issue (PS5 / PC Cross-Save)

Issue: Furniture (customization items) purchased on PS5 didn’t appear in PC version. Cross-save data was incomplete.

Impact:

  • Players lost cosmetic items across platforms
  • Cosmetic progress visually reset on PC
  • Psychological impact (“Did I lose my stuff?”)

Fix: Database query error corrected. Furniture data now syncs bidirectionally:

  • PS5 → PC ✓
  • PC → PS5 ✓
  • Cloud save timestamp determines item ownership

Scope: All players with cross-save enabled. Re-synced automatically post-hotfix.

5. NPC Behavior Anomaly: Glitched Pathfinding

Issue: NPCs in the main hub city (Neverness) occasionally walked in circles or got stuck on invisible geometry.

Impact:

  • Minor immersion break
  • NPC dialogue didn’t trigger if they were stuck (quest-blocking in rare cases)
  • Low priority but embarrassing for showcase footage

Fix:

  • Corrected pathfinding mesh collisions
  • Added timeout (10 seconds) to auto-unstick NPCs
  • Increased NPC movement speed (+10%) to reach dialogue locations faster

Community note: This was low-priority but popular among content creators who screenshot NPCs doing silly things.

6. Tomato Jelly Rampage Quest: Objective Mislabel

Issue: The quest objective displayed “Defeat Tomato Jelly (Boss)” but the actual enemy was Blueberry Glob (Boss).

Impact:

  • Confusion among new players (“Where’s the Tomato Jelly?”)
  • Low severity (players completed the quest anyway, just confused)
  • Localization oversight

Fix: Updated quest text to match actual enemy. English/JP/KR text now consistent.

Before: “Defeat Tomato Jelly (Boss)” → battle Blueberry Glob After: “Defeat Blueberry Glob (Boss)” → battle Blueberry Glob

Minor Fixes (QoL & Balance)

7. UI Opacity Settings Didn’t Persist

Issue: Changing UI opacity in settings didn’t save between sessions. Resetting every login to default 100%.

Impact:

  • Annoying for players who prefer lower opacity (visual preference)
  • Not game-breaking, just tedious

Fix: Settings storage bug corrected. UI opacity now persistent across logins.

8. Annulith Display Rounding Error

Issue: Annulith (premium currency) display rounded incorrectly on some screens. 1,480 displayed as “1.5K” (should be “1.48K”).

Impact:

  • Cosmetic only (didn’t affect actual balance)
  • Confused players checking their budgets

Fix: Rounding logic corrected. Now displays to 2 decimal places (1,480 = “1.48K”).

Compensation & Community Response

Distributed May 2 at 10:00 UTC+8:

  • 100 Annulith (offset the 4-hour downtime)
  • 1 Free S-Class Selector (apology for launch chaos)

Player sentiment:

  • Grateful for fast response (4-hour fix is excellent speed)
  • Jiuyuan nerf complaints overshadowed by free selector
  • Voice acting fix widely praised

Reddit thread sentiment: 87% positive (“Great launch support,” “Devs listen”), 13% disappointed (Jiuyuan DPS loss).

Impact on Tier List & Meta

The Jiuyuan nerf shifted the meta slightly:

CharacterPre-Hotfix RankPost-Hotfix RankNotes
JiuyuanTier 0.5 (broken)Tier 1 (balanced)Still strong, now fair
NanallyTier 1Tier 0 (clear winner)Now the undisputed top DPS
Chiz (free S+)Tier 1.5 (unproven)Tier 1.5 (viable)No changes; benefits from meta stability
SakiriTier 2 (support)Tier 1.5 (meta pick)Blossom + Jiuyuan combo now less OP, sustain more valuable

Implication: F2P players without Jiuyuan no longer feel locked out of Abyss tier 7. Diversity increased.

Post-Hotfix Stability: No Regressions

After May 1 hotfix, the next 5 days (May 1–5) saw zero critical bugs reported.

Server stability metrics:

  • Uptime: 99.98% (1 minor 10-minute blip on May 3)
  • Average player latency: 45 ms (excellent)
  • Daily active users: Growing 20%/day (healthy adoption)

This suggests the May 1 hotfix addressed root causes, not just surface-level patches.

Looking Forward: June Roadmap

Based on hotfix learnings, the devs announced:

  • May 10: Jiuyuan balance pass review (check if −25% damage correct or needs fine-tuning)
  • May 15: Aurelia story replay option (fans want to relive scenes now that voice is present)
  • May 20: NPC behavior patch 2 (more AI improvements for immersion)
  • June 1: Major content update (new story chapter + Hotori limited banner)

Confidence note: Fast hotfix + transparent communication = strong dev team. Players optimistic about ongoing support.
